Oreo
| This is Sanspelo Chanel’s full litter sister Oreo. We received a wonderful e-mail from Sherri Sirls in the USA saying that she had seen Chanel on our website and that she was wondering if they were sisters. Oreo’s date of birth is the 31st July 1998, and she was interested to see if they were related as they looked so much alike. I stared at the pictures when they came through there certainly is no mistaking that Oreo and Chanel look alike! They are indeed full litter sisters, two old ladies doing absolutely fantastic at the age of 10 years young. |

Sherri informs me that Oreo is really healthy, the only problem she’s ever had is an allergy to gluten so she has to be kept on a gluten free diet. What we find incredible is that Oreo just like her sister Chanel lives with a cat called Isis, they really do say that it’s a small world. I am so glad that Sherri got in touch with me, it is lovely to hear that Chanel has a sister that is doing so well, two siblings from the same litter still alive and bouncing with health at the age of 10 years old is really great news to hear.
There was some speculation a little while back when offspring of Chanel came back diagnosed with HCM that is could be Nellie who was passing the disease on. Despite these offspring and many others all being linked to a cat called Classytouch Roger Remington who died at the age of 7 years, and autopsy findings that I had completed on Roger showed him to have passed away from left sided heart failure, with HCM not being able to be out ruled, people were still keen to point the finger at the numerous queens of the affected kittens instead of looking at the common cat in all cases which sadly was Roger.

I made a promise at some stage to have Chanel scanned, and two weeks ago I fulfilled that promise. Sanspelo Chanel was scanned clear of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at the Gladstone Veterinary Centre in Telford, Shropshire by a specialist cardiologist, her sister is also scanned clear of the disease. Sherri had already had the heartbreak of loosing a cat to HCM so knows the devastating effects of the disease. Super news two siblings from the same litter both scanning clear at very old ages. We do not have any offspring from Chanel in our breeding programme however I thought the information may be useful to the people who have sadly cats diagnosed with parents from these lines, and indeed to the ones that have sadly lost offspring from Classytouch Roger Remington. Roger came from the USA originally and went to the Czech republic before arriving in the United Kingdom where there are numerous offspring there that are diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and also numerous offspring that have sadly passed over rainbow bridge.
It is my intention in time to test as many queens linked to these cats diagnosed and the subsequent deaths that I possibly can in the hope that it will give us a much clearer picture of what is going on, it is not easy finding them all so anyone who has information for me I would be very thankful. Roger in the last 12 months of his life was my much loved pet, I rescued him and I never bred from him after he came to me, but there is no doubt in my mind that the prolific cases we see of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in this country are all linked to one cat and I believe that cat sadly is Classytouch Roger Remington. Roger was used prolifically at stud in this Country so there will likely be many more offspring affected and many more to come. I already know of Roger’s GRANDCHILDREN dying so the disease is obviously prolific within the line, I also think that there will be many more in the future.
If anyone has cats linked to these lines with problems and would like me to send their vets information that I have accrued about the family trees, Chanel’s scan and Roger’s post mortem please do get in touch I am only glad to help.
